"Grow in His kind of love. God is Love. We have to love with His kind of love. And in dryness, desolation and trial, we have to pray like mad, because the human mind and the human soul rebel against God and against prayer, against love, against everything."
- Mother Angelica

VIRGIN OF VLADIMIR & CHRIST THE TEACHER

Our next item features two Byzantine icon images - the Virgin of Vladimir and Christ the Teacher. Celebrated as one of the most culturally significant and celebrated pieces of art in Russian history, the Virgin of Vladimir icon was sent to the Russian emperor Vladamir between 1131 and 1136. It was believed to have been one of Saint Luke's original paintings. Below the Virgin is Christ the Teacher, an Orthodox depiction of Jesus Christ as the Almighty Ruler. His right hand is raised in blessing and His direct gaze at the viewer suggests that God sees everything.

FEODOROVSKAYA (MOTHER OF GOD)

Our last item features a radiant image of the icon of Feodorovskaya (Mother of God). Linked to a multitude of miracles and healings, the icon was first discovered in 1239 while Prince Vasily of Kostroma was hunting game. After nearly becoming lost, he saw an icon standing amid the spruces. When he tried to take it down, it mysteriously rose up in the air. The prince informed citizens of Kostroma about the miracle he had witnessed and returned with a crowd of people to the forest. All present found the icon in the location as indicated and fell to their knees in prayer to the Mother of God. The icon was later carried back to the city and placed in the Assumption Cathedral. The icon has survived multiple fires, yet was always retrieved undamaged.
